Alone is defined as being, "separate or isolated from others."

A great example of alone time is when Jesus separated Himself from His disciples to be alone with God to pray. We need these private times with the Lord so He can instruct us, encourage us, and answer our personal prayers.

Lonely, however, is defined as being depressed because you feel isolated and cut off from companionship or support. Depression is a demonic spirit. So, do not entertain it, do not dwell on it, and do not welcome it into your home. Tell the devil you are not cut off from companionship because God never leaves you nor forsakes you.

Hebrews 13:5: For He Himself has said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you."

Let me be honest, it takes discipline at first to be alone and be comfortable about it at the same time. However, when you realize that when you are alone, the Lord is always with you, you will stop feeling lonely because now you have a companion and support to talk to. It stops becoming a discipline, and instead becomes a desire of your heart. You will find that you cannot wait to get home from work or a church full of people to spend alone time with the Lord.

God will also put people in your path at various times to maintain for you a healthy balance between alone time and fellowship time.

So, pour yourself a cup of tea, shut off your cell phone and curl up on the couch with your bible. As you get better acquainted with the Lord, you will soon discover that in your times of aloneness you are never alone.

Until God sends you a spouse, lean on:

Genesis 2:18
And the LORD God said, "It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him."

Psalm 37:4
Delight yourself also in the LORD, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

Philippians 4:11
Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content.

Matthew 6:8
For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him.

God understands we sometimes feel all alone thinking there is no one to comfort us.

Many men and women ended up doing great exploits for the Lord. Why? They were willing to let God separate them from others for a season to be instructed by the Lord Himself. Elijah, Ezekiel, Job and Jeremiah are just a few of the people in the Old Testament, as well as Deborah, the Judge.

1 Kings 19:9-10
And there he went into a cave, and spent the night in that place; and behold, the word of the LORD came to him, and He said to him, "What are you doing here, Elijah?" So he said, "I have been very zealous for the LORD God of hosts; for the children of Israel have forsaken Your covenant, torn down Your altars, and killed Your prophets with the sword. I alone am left; and they seek to take my life."

Romans 8:28
And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.

2 Thessalonians 2:16-17
Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, and our God and Father, who has loved us and given us everlasting consolation and good hope by grace, comfort your hearts and establish you in every good word and work.

Jesus spent much time separated from people to be with His Father. Since, He experienced what you are going through now, He understands of how you feel, and He is there to comfort you.

Know this, there is a great reward coming to you for your willingness to spend time alone with God!
